THE DAWN OF EACH DAY IS THE DAWN OF
NEW HOPE
                                          - LEAURA ALDERSON

The poet Lampman talks about the winter morning in the January month. He talks about the morning scenario of the particular city which is visited by the poet and he is much admired by the beauty of the city, its people and snow fall in the winter season and describes his experience in this poem.

He begins his poem that everywhere is surrounded by snow. He says that the sunrise is given new appearance to the city which is covered by white snow. In the morning, the roof of the houses is glittered by the sunlight and is still covered by snow. Every house has its own black chimney which gives warm to the people in the cold winter and seems built near the quiet sky. In that time, snow is silently breaks by the sun rays.

In that pleasant morning poet see the west wind, it shows the city seems very clear. The towers of the ‘slender misty city’ are seems glimmer (dull) and against the blue colour of the sky. Then he says, in the northern hills of the city Amethyst stone (it is a violet variety of colourful crystalline stone) are found largely but now it looks dull as sheep’s horn because of snow fall.

When he describes all these events, woodmen’s are coming behind the poet. They come on the horse and not using any sleights (without using vehicles) and loudly shout with cheer. They are going to play snow skating. Team by team, people are going to play in the snow skating on a frozen place. Their eyelids and beards are frozen in the snowfall.  A horse cart driver’s cheeks are getting cold in the winter. And their nostrils brings heat stream of air in the deep snow. The poet seems joy when he expresses all his experience about the city and his heart and mind are fulfilled with the thinking of new dawn in everyone’s life.
